- Homemade Christmas Presents Under the Tree - Peter Björknäs
During this time of economic uncertainty, homemade gifts are very much back in fashion. Even if the gift is inexpensive and simple, the work and effort behind the gift will be appreciated by the recipient.
Most of these gifts can be made with items already around the house or supplies that can be purchased inexpensively at stores. They also take very little time to assemble which is also a big plus during the busy holiday season.
Arrange for a Mentor
Arrange for someone to mentor the recipient in some subject or skill. If she has always wanted to learn French, canning or quilting, arrange with a friend to provide four or five lessons free of charge. (Provide the mentor with a token of appreciation for their generosity!)
Gift Certificates for Meals
Provide gift certificates redeemable for homemade meals delivered to the door. Specify what they are for (a casserole, a soup supper, Mexican fiesta, etc.) so the recipient will know what to expect when delivered.
Sewing Kit in a Mason Jar
Create a pin cushion on the top with cotton and fabric. Then fill with a tape of pins, small spools of thread in basic colors (white, navy blue, black, taupe), little scissors, a thimble and needles in various sizes.
Keepsake Photo Collection
Make a memorable photo collection in a collage frame. Contact family and friends for photos the recipient has either never seen or has not seen in a long time. Scan and make copies. Insert in collage frame.
Words of Appreciation
On lovely slips of paper, write something special about the person. Put all the slips in a jar and decorate. Label it “Some of the reasons I love you” or “I appreciate you so much”.
Scented Pillows
Use pretty fabric scraps to make small pillows that will fit in a drawer. Fill them with lavender or potpourri. Flax seeds can also be added as they add a nice feel to the pillow and won’t interfere with the scent.
Small Scrapbook
Most craft and scrapbooking stores sell inexpensive kits for making a small scrapbook. Print off a few special pictures, decorate the pages and add some handwritten sentiments.
