Cabin Fever Idea Book
Make a class idea book for winter fun! Have the class brainstorm fun things that can be done inside when the weather is too bad to go out. The teacher writes the ideas on the board, directing the conversation as needed. Each student copies the entire list into her own special Cabin Fever Idea Book to take home. If time is short, the teacher can type up the list and make copies. The students can then decorate a cover for the book.
Sticker Stories
Kids love stickers and they can be a great way to promote writing! Give each student a sheet of winter-themed stickers such as snowmen. As the students write a story, they substitute one of the stickers for the word.
Shoebox Diorama
Have the students choose one of the writing prompts below and write a short composition. Then have them create a shoebox diorama that illustrates part of their written piece. Attach the compositions to the top of the boxes and invite younger students to visit the class and read the written pieces and view the dioramas.
Winter Word Search
As a class, brainstorm a list of winter-related words and write them on the chalkboard or overhead. Give each student a piece of graph paper and have him/her make a word search complete with a list of words used in the word search. Have the students exchange word searches and complete.
